Video
Criterion has superior grain retention and improved contrast, compared to the BFI disc, which seems to be using the same overprocessed master as the Toho UHD.

Audio
There is no great option here, but Criterion DVD is the best available. The 4K restoration (same on all discs) uses a different mastering, which trades detail and clarity for a less fatiguing listening experience, with reduced hiss and different EQ. At times it manages to sound more natural, but some of the time the vocals get muffled and become hard to make out (e.g. 0:16 on sample #1). There are also a handful of spots where the restored track has more detail than the DVD (e.g. 2:58 on sample #3).

As each of the options has some downsides, they're both included here.

Criterion DVD track was resynced from scratch in a DAW. The previous release used an eac3to-edited track, which had two spots with jarring silences interrupting sounds.
