ARCHIVAL SOURCE INFORMATION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unofficial fan preservation sourced from a 35mm theatrical exhibition print
(Kodak LPP stock, DIY scan & IT-8 calibrated).

Presented in native 4K UHD (3840×2160) resolution with HDR10 (PQ transfer,
BT.2020 primaries, P3 mastering display, MaxCLL 3419 / MaxFALL 195), encoded
in HEVC Main 10 at ~50 Mb/s ABR target. This encode retains visible release-print
grain, natural density fluctuations, photochemical tonal response, and high-frequency
detail inherent to the scanned 35mm element — no digital noise reduction or
artificial sharpening applied.

Original theatrical aspect ratio: 1.85:1 (spherical 35mm projection).
This presentation uses a 16:9 (1.78:1) container to preserve the full scanned
image area from the 35mm element (open-gate / taller framing), which may
reveal additional vertical information beyond the theatrical masked projection.

Primary audio preserves the original 35mm optical stereo track in 24-bit FLAC.
Additional tracks include surround optical (4.0), LaserDisc stereo, DVD 5.1/4.1,
and Blu-ray stereo/surround mixes (various editions: Shout!, Arrow, Midnight Factory).

Color space: BT.2020 / PQ HDR10 (P3 mastering display).
Runtime: 1 h 39 min (theatrical timing).

PRESERVATION AND CINEMATIC CONTEXT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Theatrical release prints represent the final photochemical stage of cinema —
the exact medium through which audiences first experienced Big Trouble in Little China in 1986.
This 4K HDR encode preserves the organic grain texture, contrast characteristics,
and analog motion cadence inherent to physical 35mm film projection.

Unlike modern digital intermediates or home-video masters, this version maintains
the generational qualities of a used release print, offering an authentic representation
of the theatrical cinema experience in native UHD with HDR dynamic range. It serves
as both archival preservation and nostalgic homage to John Carpenter's cult action-fantasy classic.
