Encoding wise, it's average, still better than the iTunes and CC Blu-ray;<br/>Metropolitan FRA UHD Blu-ray vs iTunes 4K WEB-DL HDR10 vs Criterion USA Blu-ray:<br/>or Slow.pics</p><p>Previous stated on Criterion remux about 5.1 audio was done without the knowledge the new audio was already been remixed, which added new detail (new foleys) and effects (new 5.1 surround sound mix by Jon Taylor at NBCUniverseal StudioPost supervised by the director Alejandro G. Iñárritu).<br/>It's a good remix, however it has its flaws as this sample shows<br/>So in order to the get the original 5.1 surround mix one has to backtrack to the Lionsgate NTSC DVD of 2001, as the 5.1 surrounds on the Blu-rays (GBR and Lionsgate USA 2017 is the same track, GER Blu-ray has the track attenuated but the clipping is present like other editions and the tinkering is the same), so for the best 5.1 track on blu-rays is the Liongate vs NTSC DVD, one can see the extremely boosted audio (with lots of clipping vs no clipping on the DVD) they did for the 5.1 on Blu-rays;<br/>Lionsgate NTSC DVD 2001 vs Lionsgate USA Blu-ray 2017:<br/>or Slow.pics</p><p>But as also can be seen there were parts that have been tampered, so the NTSC DVD was chosen for original 5.1 mix, this had to be synced and edits three times to compensate a few frames missing, but not much frames, so it was possible to do it and retain the ac3 while having the same delay intended. For alternate 5.1 surround remix, the one on the FRA UHD was chosen as the CC had a lot more limiting with less dynamic range than the FRA UHD Blu-ray one.</p><p>Commentary was chosen the one on the Lionsgate Blu-ray as it's same one as on DVD, the GER has been attenuated, by re-encoding the same track causing dithering. This was synced to the UHD.</p><p>Best english (regular) sub is the one on Criterion Blu-ray, so it was chosen and with a text based option from ocr from it. All other PGS were tonemapped and synced to same % as UHD. Same for srts.
