RELEASE NOTES
The encode of the GBR UHD is a solid improvement on the encode of the GER UHD due to the significant bitrate increase and lack of chroma noise issues as seen in The Brood. Between the mono audio tracks, there appear to be two separate transfers: one mono transfer that was used on the GER (2012), USA, and now GBR/GER (2025) discs and another that is on the MGM R1US DVD (2001) and the GER (2025) disc as an alternate mono. While fidelity differences between the two are much less significant than for The Brood, there are still several notable mixing differences and as such both transfers were included. It should be noted that I've used the terms "e;original mono mix"e; and "e;alternate mono mix"e; only to stick to my uploading conventions and not to correctly/definitively indicate that one track is "e;original"e; and one is "e;alternate."e; Both transfers sound good and the similar fidelity has allowed me to set the lossless track as default. The "e;alternate"e; mix on the GER (2025) disc is a boosted lossy transcode of the track on the DVD. The isolated score on the GER (2025) disc, however, is properly lossless so that was used rather than the old DD 1.0 track on the Wicked-Vision BD. For surround audio, the remix on the GBR UHD/GER UHD (they are the same, but the GBR is 24-bit) sounds more aggressively remixed compared to the 5.0 from the GBR (2013) disc, so the more aggressive new remix was used as a good rendition of the mono mix is already available. Subtitles from the GER UHD matched the brightness of the GBR UHD (58%, #949494), so they weren't tonemapped. French PGS subs from the Pathe BD were synced courtesy of Trashmen as I couldn't find the disc alive anywhere. There are three options for named chapters (USA BD, GBR (2013), NTSC DVD (2001)) and I preferred the USA BD (Criterion).
